With an aggressive yet artful style in dealing with cases, Mr. Franz achieves
optimal results for his clients. Since his admission to the bar
in 1994, he has won several legal victories in both the trial and appellate
courts. Among his accomplishments are:
- An acquittal for his client after a 4-month racketeering trial in the infamous “Gold Club” case in the State of Georgia;
- A 40-month downward departure for his client accused of money laundering in a case which the government described as the “largest consumer fraud in American history”;
- A dismissal of RICO charges and a plea to tax evasion for which his client received only 5 months imprisonment;
- A dismissal of groping charges brought against actor Christian Slater; and
- Successful representation of Nestor Estrada in the infamous Russell Crowe phone assault case
Mr. Franz began his legal career working for preeminent defense attorney,
Jay Goldberg. Then, Mr. Franz worked with the Criminal Appeals
Bureau of the Legal Aid Society where he conducted research and writing
and argued appeals before the New York Appellate Division for the First
and Second Departments. After successfully arguing numerous appeals,
he pursued trial work in the Criminal Defense Division of the Legal
Aid Society in Brooklyn, New York, litigating several cases to verdict.
Having earned a reputation as a young, aggressive attorney, who was well-versed
in the law, Mr. Franz was recruited to join the Queens Law Associates,
a newly formed private defense organization. In the years that
followed, he worked for the Law Offices of Joseph Tacopina where he
gained invaluable experience and continued to flourish as a criminal
defense attorney. He opened his own practice in 2001.
Practicing law for over a decade, Mr. Franz has handled a broad variety of legal
matters. He has predominantly dealt with complex state and federal
criminal cases, involving white collar, violent, and non-violent crimes.
He has also handled civil lawsuits, immigration, and administrative
matters. His firm focuses on pre-trial litigation and trials,
as well as post-conviction proceedings in the state and federal courts.
Today, Mr. Franz is active in the legal community, making valuable contributions
to its members. He is frequently invited to speak at Fordham Law
School on the subjects of criminal law and alternative dispute resolution.
He has also appeared as a guest judge in moot court competitions at
New York Law School. He is a member of the National Association
of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the New York State Criminal Defense Lawyers
Association, the American Bar Association, and the Federal Law Enforcement
Foundation.
